EU/UK Representative (from general availability): we have engaged DataRep as our Article 27 GDPR / UK-GDPR representative. Their contact details will be published here upon appointment taking effect. During the current beta, access from the EU and UK is geo-restricted (see below).
The short version
Sir Chats-a-Lot (SCL) is an open-source (MIT), self-hosted AI chat widget. When someone installs it on their own website, we receive nothing: the widget runs on their infrastructure, uses their own LLM API key, and grounds answers in their own published content. We operate no database and no account system, and this website has no analytics.
The only personal data we touch is (1) what you type into the live demo on this site, and (2) emails you send us.
EU/UK beta geo-restriction
During beta, sir-chats-a-lot.com and the demo service are geo-blocked for visitors from the EU/EEA and UK at the network level. This restriction applies to this website only — the open-source package on npm and GitHub is distributed by those platforms globally and independently of us. We will lift the block at general availability, once our EU/UK representative appointment (DataRep) and transfer assessments are complete.
What we process, why, and for how long
| Data | Source | Purpose | Legal basis | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Demo chat messages (and optional file attachments) | You, via the demo widget | Generate an AI reply to your message | Legitimate interest (providing the demo you invoked) | Not stored by us. Processed transiently in memory; your conversation lives only in your browser’s sessionStorage and disappears when you close the tab |
| LLM inference of demo messages | Forwarded to Anthropic PBC | Produce the AI response | Legitimate interest | Per Anthropic’s commercial API terms (no training on API data) |
| Technical logs (IP address, user agent, timestamp) | Your browser | Serving the site, security, abuse prevention | Legitimate interest | Cloudflare / GitHub Pages standard log retention; we run no additional logging |
| Support emails | You | Answering you | Legitimate interest / contract | As long as needed for the request, then deleted |
| npm download counts, GitHub stars/forks | npm Inc., GitHub | Aggregate statistics only | n/a — we receive no personal data | n/a |
Please don't submit personal, confidential, or sensitive information to the demo. It is a demonstration, not a support channel.
The self-hosted widget: you are not our data subject
If you interact with a Sir Chats-a-Lot widget on someone else's website, that site's operator is the data controller. The widget sends your messages to their server route and their chosen LLM provider — never to us. Consult that website's privacy policy.
Sub-processors and international transfers
We are US-based; the services below process data in the US and globally. For EU/UK data (post-beta), transfers will rest on SCCs (Module 2, controller→processor) with transfer impact assessments in progress; the beta geo-block means no EU/UK visitor data is intentionally processed today.
| Provider | Role | What they touch | Safeguards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare, Inc. | DNS/CDN; hosts the demo chat Worker | Technical logs; transient demo messages | Cloudflare DPA incl. SCCs |
| GitHub, Inc. | Static site hosting; source repository | Access logs | GitHub DPA incl. SCCs |
| Anthropic PBC | LLM inference for the demo | Demo message content (transient) | Commercial API terms; no training on API data; SCCs |
| npm Inc. (GitHub) | Package registry | Independent controller — distributes the package under its own terms | n/a |
The open-source package itself involves no sub-processors of ours: integrators self-host and contract directly with their own providers.
AI transparency (EU AI Act)
Sir Chats-a-Lot is a general-purpose chat interface grounded in published website content — a limited-risk AI system subject to the transparency obligations of Article 50 AI Act, not a high-risk system under Annex III. The widget identifies itself as an AI assistant in its interface, and our license terms require integrators to preserve that disclosure. The demo on this site uses Anthropic's Claude models; responses are AI-generated and may be inaccurate.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (GDPR/UK-GDPR incl. the DUAA amendments, or CCPA/CPRA for California residents), you may have rights of access, deletion, correction, portability, restriction, objection, and the right to complain to a supervisory authority. Because we store essentially nothing, most requests will be answerable immediately — but write to privacy@proticom.com and we'll act within the statutory deadlines. We do not sell or share personal information within the meaning of the CCPA/CPRA, and we honor Global Privacy Control signals for the little we do process.
Changes
We'll update this page as the product leaves beta; material changes will be noted here with a new "last updated" date.
